Dragonfly Hill in winter

Photo taken from the house at sunset after a January snowfall. This not a characteristic of our weather but, when it happens, it really is remarkable.

A note for wintertime visitors: though we think Dragonfly Hill is spectacular during the winter months, it really isn’t for everyone. Though, as you can see in the photos, we have all the modern conveniences, it’s still very much a country house and is heated by healthy radiant heat: both wood and electricity. There is no central heating and keeping the house peignor-set warm requires your participation, in terms of keeping the fire going. In really cold weather when the temperature zooms to below zero, it is sometimes not even possible to keep the house warm enough to be comfortable in all rooms without a sweater. If this, and other realities of spending time in the forest in the wintertime, are distressing to you, you should consider booking in one of the warmer seasons. From mid-May to late October tend to be the warmest times on Galiano. If, however, a wintertime gathering is on your mind or in your heart, dress in layers and bring slippers. You’ll be glad of both!
